Stephen Roehrs of Adams Avenue Bicycles AAB Owner Stephen Roehrs, often better known as "Chef", was born in San Diego in 1961 and is the third of four generations of bicycle racers in the Roehrs family. His penchant for all things bicycle took root when he was just a small child. He was forever curious and eager to learn; Stephen's grandfather and father introduced him to riding, bicycle maintenance, and the building of fine bicycles. The "Roehrs Boys" were always partial to the finest components and to the latest and greatest in bicycle technology. Over the years, the family connected with many custom frame and component builders in the industry, as they built their own bicycles.

After moving to Steamboat Springs, CO in 1975, Stephen's father coached and inspired him to begin competitive bicycle racing. As a junior racer in Colorado, Stephen competed against such notable racers as: Alexi Grewal, Tony Comfort, and Davis Phinney. He handily secured first place in the 1975 Tour De Steamboat, a highly competitive road race in the Rocky Mountains organized by fellow racer and friend Kent Eriksen (founder of Moots bicycles and current owner of Eriksen bicycles).

Following his high school graduation, Stephen's other passion led him to enroll in the prestigious Culinary Institute of America where he completed training as a CIA Chef in 1986. His career as a chef had him traveling and experiencing life in many different regions of the United States; in each new place Chef Stephen called home, he always became an active participant in the local bicycle community.

In 2012, Chef Stephen returned home to San Diego. He knew that his love of all things bicycle was leading him to his newest pursuit - owning and operating a neighborhood bicycle shop. Stephen and his wife, Bonnie, became the proud new owners of Adams Avenue Bicycles on September 15th, 2014.
